Three Rivers Dulcimer Society

Mountain dulcimers are not as well known out west as in other parts of the country, but we have been helping to change that since we first got together in March 2003. Three Rivers Dulcimer Society (based in the Tri-Cities,Washington) continues to grow as people learn about us and hear us play. Folks in our group play mainly Appalachian mountain dulcimers, but we also have hammered dulcimers, mandolins, fiddles, guitars, penny whistles, bodhrans, flute, Irish harp, harmonica, cello and bass. We welcome all ages, abilities, and acoustic instruments!

Greetings! New for you on the site are a Recipes section and a special place to capture information for those of you just starting out on the dulcimer.

We’re always looking forward to our practice/jam sessions .  See you there!

3RDS turns 5

We had a wonderful jam session in March and celebrated the group’s 5th year together.  The dulcimer shaped cake is becoming a tasty tradition.  As you can see, we have a wide variety of instruments and we do play all sorts of everything  from Boiling the Cabbage with the beginners to some break-neck jigs and reels. Come smile with us.

Our jam sessions have been moving around a lot lately. Get on our mailing list to get accurate updates and other breaking information. Spring is here in the Tri-Cities! We’ll be moving outside when the weather cooperates, until then its the W. Richland REA or the Richland Community Center.  (The library public room was taken over by Tax Consultants.)

Special Opportunity for Dulcimer Players in the Northwest: April 12, 2008:

Besides our twice monthly jams and periodic performances around town, for the past five years we have participated in the Three Rivers Folklife Society-sponsored Tumbleweed Festival on Labor Day weekend by hosting a “Jammin’ in the Key of D” workshop.

Use the menu at the left to see pictures from the Tumbleweed workshops and other events, get copies of the music we are playing, and see where we will be playing.

We offer free lessons on mountain dulcimers at our practice sessions. Newcomers are welcome!
